The Quit to Win! Challenge

Various cessation assistance approaches exist in Quebec, such as reference services, counselling, quit smoking centres and advocacy groups. The Quit to Win! Challenge is also included in this array of services and for the past 25 years has offered considerable support in the area of tobacco cessation services.

The Quit to Win! Challenge is a Quebec initiative inspired by the World Health Organization’s Quit & Win campaign that originated in Finland. In 1999, the Capsana team and the Public Health Department of the Agence de santé et services sociaux de Montréal had the idea of implementing a vast provincial campaign to encourage Quebecers to free themselves from tobacco, using a positive and motivating approach. The Challenge aims to bring people together by inviting smokers and non-smokers to participate in a single campaign, based on respect and mutual assistance.

Since its creation, there have been nearly 517,000 registrations to the Quit to Win! Challenge. It is therefore with a great deal of pride that the Challenge is celebrating its 25st anniversary. Thanks to the continued support of our partners, including the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec, the Directions régionales de santé publique du Québec, the Canadian Cancer Society and Jean Coutu, the Challenge continues to be one of the most popular smoking cessation methods in the province.
